I think deserts get a bad rap. When you think about landscape photography, generally you think forests or mountains or beaches; rarely is it the stark and arid beauty that are our deserts. I already have a fondness for growing cacti and succulents so it’s probably no wonder that I’m drawn to exploring deserts.
I found this shot by accident as we were trudging back to the car. I dropped a lens cap and while chasing it happened to look up and catch this perspective.
Sunrise over the city of Ruidoso, from atop a nearby mountain. I really loved shooting this spot, even if it’s not the best photograph on technical merit. I got to watch the sun slowly rise, washing the valley in reds and oranges as we packed up to leave after night shooting.
